1st Phorm Level-1 Review

If you are here, you have heard the hype about 1st Phorm, and are wondering about the Level-1 protein. With 1st Phorm only shipping from their site and it not being found in stores, there really is no ‘good’ way to sample without ordering, unless you know someone who happens to share with you, so the next best thing is a honest review.

Truth be told, the 1st Phorm protein is noticeably higher quality and has an easier to access customer service department (with a 110% money-back guarantee!) than anything you will find in a store.

Key Ingredients

For starters, and in full disclosure, this is a Whey based protein. If you cannot do dairy for one reason or another, check out their vegan protein.

With that said, Level-1 is a pretty simple product.

There isn’t much in there outside of what you would expect.

  • 140 Calories
  • 24g Protein
  • 7g Carbs
  • 2g Fat

Everything else in there is associated with either those macronutrients, the glorious flavors, or are the preservatives needed to help keep the mixture fresh for whenever you open it.

It is also purely whey/milk, with no other sources. There are no egg/soy/pea proteins in there. That is a huge positive if you have any sensitivity to any of those proteins.

Quality of the Flavor and Texture

They have the usual flavors, like Milk Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream, but they also have some niche flavors like Pumpkin Spice, Blueberry Muffin, and Peppermint Bark. All of which are really, really good.

Outside of their Phormula-1 post-workout (which I also encourage you pick up as well for post-workout), Level-1 has some of the absolutely best tasting protein flavors I have ever had. And, I don’t say that lightly. I have tried everything from Combat Powder to Wheybolic to Six Star and pretty much everything in between.

Nothing compares.

Except chicken.

Nothing beats actual chicken.

The only one I am not a fan of is Mint Ice Cream sandwich, but I do not like that combo in real ice cream sandwiches, so take that criticism for what it is worth.

If you can grab a tub of Peppermint Bark, I highly recommend it.

There are a ton of absolutely gross proteins out there with gritty, nasty textures. Some brands would throw you for a loop if you were handed them blindfolded, wondering if you were drinking dirt if it weren’t for the flavor profiles. You know which ones I am talking about. They don’t mix well, no matter how much you shake or stir, leaving a chalky residue in your mouth. That or they are so gritty you feel like your teeth are being sand blasted as you struggle to down it because you refuse to throw away the money it cost.

I can tell you this, almost everything from 1st Phorm is low-temperature processed. That means the grittiness you find with lower quality products is completely gone. That extends to their Level-1 product line. There is absolutely no grittiness, and the product stays mixed in your cup. I did an experiment once and left it, mixed, in water, for about 30 minutes. No change. Perfectly blended, well suspended, and no sign of grit.

Just smooth deliciousness.

I don’t take it every single day, but you really don’t need to. There are very few supplements that you *should* take every day. This isn’t one of them. But, it can definitely help fill in nutritional gaps when you are having trouble.

Let me say that Level-1 has some pretty major differences from other protein shakes and meal replacements.

First of all, since it is low-temp processed and cross-flow microfiltrated, it is super easy to not only get down, but also to be digested and absorbed by the body. The processing mechanism used (which most companies don’t do, btw), means it is super bioavailable. This process is why there is a noticeable uptick in quality compared to other outlets products.

Secondly, it definitely helps with recovery and energy sustainment due to the makeup consisting of both, isolate and concentrate. This means that the shake will continue to feed your muscles for awhile. This is great for times when you just cannot get a meal in.

This stuff isn’t something you can ‘feel’ working, but you CAN taste the quality and know that on the days you take it, your muscles will be well fed.

Level-1 is a bit pricey, but the super high quality of the product more than makes up for it. No grittiness, bomb flavors, a good BCAA profile (great if you don’t actually get enough protein in your diet to begin with) + Glutamine (recovery), and the low-temp processed, minimally denatured protein content (making it nearly on-par with actual food in that regard) all contribute to it being worth the cost.

Compared here to GNC Wheybolic:

1st Phorm Level-1GNC Wheybolic
Protein per Serving2440
Cost$54.99 (30 servings)$69.99 (25 servings)

My only complaint about Level-1 protein is that, while it is super high quality and I understand why they do it, you cannot buy it in the store. Their market share would explode if you could find it in an aisle somewhere, guaranteed.

The product itself is fantastic, and I know this is more of a marketing complaint, but in all honesty Level-1 is a solid product with almost nothing to complain about, just like any of their products that I have tried.

You just need to decide if you really need to pick up a tub today, or if you can have it shipped to you. GNC, for example, can get it to you same day if you wander into the store or do curbside pickup. Contrast that with 1st Phorm who will ship it (can’t be bought in stores), and that is a choice you need to make.

Final Thoughts

If you can’t seem to find a quality protein that actually tastes good AND is effective, pick up a tub of this. It’s definitely worthwhile to try out. Plus, they have a 110% money back guarantee, so if you don’t like it, send it back.
